New York, NY, August 27, 2018: Deezer, the world’s most personal music streaming service, is continuing its focus on new emerging talent with the announcement of its new Deezer NEXT acts with a special emphasis on Latin artists. For the first time ever, Deezer is working with a major established artist to pick its new NEXT act and Reggaeton “Big Boss” Daddy Yankee has hand-selected Brytiago as Deezer’s new Latin NEXT act.

Brytiago, the Puerto Rican singer and songwriter, signed to Daddy Yankee’s El Cartel Records is the first Latin artist to be named a local Deezer NEXT artist in both the US and in Latin America. Under the guidance of Daddy Yankee and the support of Deezer, the Latin trap artist will receive the full support of all NEXT acts worldwide including: 12 months of profile development, playlisting, and take part in creative Artist Marketing campaigns for 12 months.

  • Global Priority:

Since its first launch in January 2017, Deezer NEXT global and local artists have seen a huge increase in both fans and streams with Jorja Smith, the first Deezer global priority act of 2018 seeing a boost of over 1,187% in streams and more than 665% growth in fans, while Zak Abel has seen an impressive jump of 1,307% in streams and over 2,263% increase in fans.

Importantly, non-English speaking artists proved that they could attract international fanbases as nearly half of the Top 10 most streamed Deezer NEXT artists in 2017 were non-English language (French, German, Spanish and Portuguese).

Dearon 'Deezer D' Thompson, best known for his role as Nurse Malik McGrath on ER, has died. He was 55.

The actor's brother, Emmery Thompson, confirmed the tragic news in a post shared to Instagram on Friday. 'My Big Brother! God is with you,' he wrote. 'I will miss you. Perfect world for mac. 🙏🏾 #deezerd.'

Dearon was found unresponsive at his home in Los Angeles Thursday morning, according to TMZ, who was first to report the news. His family told the outlet that they believe he may have died of a heart attack (the actor previously underwent major heart surgery in 2009), though the cause of death has yet to be revealed.

In addition to appearing on ER from 1994 through 2009, Dearon also starred in films like CB4 and Fear of a Black Hat, and performed as a hip-hop artist and motivational speaker. Other credits include Bringing Down the House, The John Larroquette Show, and Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.

'What a special spirit we have all lost!' Mekhi Phifer, who starred on the long-running medical drama with Dearon wrote on Instagram after hearing the news. 'Since the first day I met him on the set of ER he absolutely made me feel at home and welcomed. My brother will forever be missed! Many condolences to his friends, fans and family. RIP Deezer D!!'

'I am so sorry to hear of his passing,' added fellow ER star Lyn Alicia Henderson. 'He had a spirit that was bigger than life and we always had the best conversations! I loved his music, his love of God and his love for his family. He will be missed!'
